This programme provides training in the critical understanding and practice of theatre in the context of the conjunctions of Western and Asian theatre in Singapore. After foundational training in the core histories, forms, methods and issues that have shaped contemporary theatre practices, the curriculum develops the scope of theatre studies by addressing performance in other mediums - such as film -and cultural practices that can be studied as performances, such as social rituals and popular television. Graduates in Theatre Studies are well-trained for a variety of arts and media careers, such as journalism, arts design, planning and practice, but they also have the potential to enter a wide range of professions extending from teaching and research to the diplomatic service. Graduates in Theatre Studies are in heavy demand in a variety of theatre-related openings with such organizations as MediaCorp, MICA, NAC, and the Esplanade.

Students who hold 'A' level and Mauritius HSC qualification needs to have a pass in three advanced level subjects. Advanced Placement students should have three or more AP subjects with grade4, in all subjects. Australian high school students must possess ENTER/TER/UAI of 90 or better. French Baccalaureate Diploma students should have a score of at least 15/20 for all subjects. German Abitur and New Zealand University Entrance, Bursaries and Scholarship Examination or National Certificate of Educational Achievement level 3 students needs to undertake Abitur with a total mark between 1.0 and 2.0 with scores of 13 and 15 in individual subjects. Indian Standard 12 (Central, ISCE Boards, State and other Boards) students should have a pass in five subjects including English. Indonesian SMA UAN (Ebtanas) students must have passed in SMA UAN and International Baccalaureate Diploma students must possess 3 HL and 3SL subjects, including English. Students who hold PRC National College Entrance Examination or Gao Kao, Unified Examination Certificate, Vietnamese High School Graduation Examination, Ontario Secondary School Diploma / Canadian Pre-U and American High School Diploma / Bangladeshi HSC / Filipino High School / Myanmar High School / Mathayom 6 / Pakistani Intermediate / 'A' levels (Sri Lanka and West Africa)/ others must have a good pass certificate. Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students need a score of at least B in all subjects. They must fulfill any of the following English language requirements with a minimum acceptable score: IELTS 6.0, MUET 221, C6 in 'O' level English and EL1119; or TOEFL with score of 550 for paper-based, 213 for computer-based and 79-80 for internet-based. All students are required to have SAT I with a minimum acceptable reasoning test scores of 600 on critical reading and writing section; and 650 on mathematics section and SAT II includes compulsory mathematics level II subject tests with any two subjects of their choices.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is one of the largest faculties in the University with 15 departments and programmes and a Centre for Language Studies, offering the most comprehensive range of humanities and social sciences in this part of the world. The Residential Services (RS) provides accommodation for undergraduate and graduate students. The undergraduate housing has approximately 7,100 residential places distributed between NUS leased and owned hostels. Student rooms are furnished with beds, mattresses, wardrobes, study tables, book shelves and fans/air-conditioning units. Points for telephone, cable television and the internet are available in each room. Students may choose either a single room or double room. Laundry rooms, equipped with coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers are located in each student accommodation. NUS have six halls of residence with about 3,000 residential places. The halls are situated in different parts of the campus and are well known for their vibrancy in co-curricular activities (CCA), rich history and culture. The meal plans differ amongst the halls which is compulsory and non-refundable. Student Residences offers 11 to 15 single rooms and are grouped as a cluster with its own kitchen and bathroom facilities. Meal plans are not available in these residences. The kitchen and dining areas are equipped with basic cooking appliances. Residents will have to provide their own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. The two blocks of Graduate Student Apartments (GSA) in Prince George's Park Residences, offer 200 fully furnished Studio Apartments. Married graduate students who wish to live with their families on campus will find the fully-furnished apartment comfortable. Each of these apartments is designed for a maximum occupancy of two adults and two children. The apartment is well equipped with an en-suite toilet and showers a refrigerator, cooker hood and hob, oven toaster and microwave oven. Each apartment is wired with a telephone point and a high-speed LAN point for fast access to the NUS Intranet and Internet. Graduate students may choose between the two types of apartment units, i.e. type one - living room and type two - kitchen.
